Level 1 Music
Course Description
This course consists of solo and group performance, creating music, analysing music, understanding the language of music and aural perception. Students are expected to have knowledge of an instrument at this level. There are 3 standards offered for a total of 15 credits. These standards involve songwriting and production, live performance and playing a song back by ear.
Course Overview
Term 1
1.1 Play a song back by ear on your chosen instrument.
Compose or produce a song.
Term 2
Solo performance on your chosen instrument.
Term 3
Composition due.
Term 4
Tidy up assessments.
Recommended Prior Learning
It is recommended that you have an interest or experience in producing both live and recorded music. Experience is not compulsory.

Assessment Information
With the new NCEA standards being introduced in 2024 at level one, the 11MUS course in 2024 will assess three of the four standards.This will require a broader understanding of the links between topics, which we hope will result in better learning outcomes for our akonga.
Credit Information
You will be assessed in this course through all or a selection of the standards listed below.
