Level 1 Design and CAD Technology

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mr R. Ringwood.

This course is an introduction into CAD, designing and working with wood-based projects.  The Main unit introduces the students to CAD (Computer Aided Design using SolidWorks) and gives them an opportunity to design (with CAD if they want) and make something in wood for a take home project.

There will be a cost for the production of projects and materials used. The cost will be determined by the project specifications and discussions with the student's teacher.

Course Overview

Term 1
Students will be introduced to and taught the basics of designing in Solidworks.
Students will be given a basic Brief which they will develop through the design process while creating something for themselves or a member of the family.

Term 2
Students will spend the first half of this term finishing their design, following the design process which they were introduced to in term 1.
Students will gain hand skill relevant to the project they have designed.
Students will start production of their design.
Students will be introduced to the external standard. This is a research paper based on materials (to be completed for homework)

Term 3
Continue production of their design
Finish off the external standard to be handed in week 5
Finish constructing the product they designed and get it evaluated

Term 4
Tidy up any paperwork and finishing touches to the product designed
