In this course we will explore the relationship between media products and audiences. We will think critically about emerging issues in our society that are related to media production and consumption.
Media Studies is a practical subject. During this course you will plan, research, record and edit your own podcast. You will also develop an understanding of audience theory and how audiences interact with media products.
Term 1
Reflective social inquiry:
Students undertake an inquiry on a media issue, such as privacy, misinformation, AI content or search algorithms.
Term 2
Script development and podcast pre-production:
Students present their inquiry as a script for an episode of the TechNOW! podcast series, a Nelson College Media production.
Term 3
Podcast production:
Students record and edit their podcast to publication standard.
Term 4
Exam revision:
Students prepare for the external exam on media audiences.
