Level 1 English Literature
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Ms C. Elliott.
All Year 11 students are required to study English. Students will be guided by teacher recommendation for English Communication Literacy or ESOL courses. Otherwise, they will choose from either English Multimedia or English Literature.
A literature and language-based course comprised of Level 1 Achievement Standards. A range of skills will be covered including reading and responding to a range of written and visual/verbal texts, as well as writing for a range of purposes to prepare for Level 2 English courses.
Course Overview
Term 1
Is Shakespeare All That? A unit that explores the language and works of Shakespeare and explores its relevance to our current times.
Essay and creative writing are part of each term's unit.
Term 2
Literature study: short story and novel study.
Term 3
Resounding Rebellion; a study of protest poetry and lyrics.
External writing achievement standard.
Term 4
Examination prep.
Recommended Prior Learning
Satisfactory results in Year 10 English and teacher’s recommendation.
Pathway
Assessment Information
With the new NCEA standards being introduced in 2024 at Level One, the 11ELT course in 2025 will assess three of the four standards.This will require a broader understanding of the links between topics, which we hope will result in better learning outcomes for our akonga.
Credit Information
You will be assessed in this course through all or a selection of the standards listed below.
