Course Description

This course is designed for those wishing to pursue possible future career pathways in Sports Science, Physical Education and other future opportunities in the vast sporting world . The course covers many important sporting concepts and includes:  Physical activity experiences with evaluation, based on video analysis techniques in the performance of golf using biomechanical concepts. The course covers the many benefits of sport throughout life (well being/ Hauora) through a variety of various sporting concepts and practicals covered across many sports codes. Students will research the acclaimed TGFU/ Game sense coaching approach through a 'Games for Understanding' based model in a Basketball unit.  This course is also fully internally assessed with 2 weekly practicals. Students will be part of the popular golf program where local professionals assist and coach our students over 2 terms during practicals to help them improve their golfing skills for their future.  There is a $110 voluntary payment for the golf program which is heavily subsidised by Nelson Golf Club for coaching, transport, green and match fees across 2 terms to help us to continue to run this popular Level 3 program for our students.

12 Level 2 credits in Physical Education or negotiation with Head of Facility.

Contributions and Equipment/Stationery

The course includes programs such as the Golf unit, the Basketball unit as well as 'Sport for Life' unit. Contribution costs associated with this unit are approximately $110 per student for the year. This amount is for activities that we participate in town like croquet and lawn bowls as well as golf lessons, golf fees and practice sessions heavily subsidised by the golf professionals at Nelson Golf Club in which Nelson College has a fantastic relationship with.

Assessment Information

Assessments are all internally assessed NCEA achievement Standards and are marked by teachers. No external credits or exams.
